Baby's Ears

Creative connector;
The story is about Val and her grandma. Her grandma is just sitting at home day in, day out and not doing anything. So Val and her mother get worried. Her mother thinks it’s hopeless but Val has an idea! She takes her grandma to the beach and they go looking for shells for Val’s collection. Her grandma is really afraid of the water but when she’s there with Val she forgets her fear.

In the real world there is also a lot of people that have problems with their family. The grandma in this story thinks she knows what she wants and doesn’t want to face her fears. But when Val tricks her out she actually forgets her fear and has fun instead. This is also common in real life I think, when you try to think about the fun things about something instead of the risks and scary things, you can enjoy it more. Like if you’re afraid of the dark, instead of thinking about how scary it is, think about that it’s the same room, just dark, there’s actually no difference.

Discussion leader;
  1. (White hat) On page 47 Val drops some of her shells in the sand, why did she do that?
  2. (Red hat) So after Val had dropped the shells her grandma found them, how did she feel then?
  3. (Yellow hat) What do you think about Val’s personality, is she often happy?
  4. (Black hat) The grandma use to live in New York but because Val and her mother didn’t want her to live at a nursing home, she moved to Florida. But unfortunately she doesn’t like Florida, why doesn’t she?
  5. (Green hat) Can you imagine another ending?
